Autopsy results revealing a fatal bullet wound changed investigation focus on James G. Durgan, 37 of Salida, from missing person to homicide, law enforcement officials announced Wednesday. Cañon City Police officers disclosed the change in a press release Wednesday after police executed several vehicle search warrants in Salida Tuesday. Salida and Cañon City police officers, Fremont County Sheriff's Deputies, Colorado Bureau of Investigation personnel and 11th Judicial District Attorney's office investigators canvassed a Salida neighborhood Tuesday conducting interviews regarding the case. "I am 100 percent satisfied this case is a homicide," Salida Police Chief Terry Clark said Wednesday. All warrants related to the case have been executed in the Salida area, but Fremont County Sheriff's Deputies, working with Cañon City police, are leading the investigation, Clark said. Although no arrests have been made, Clark confirmed investigators have suspects and have yet to rule out any. He did not comment regarding the number of suspects.Clark said investigators so far have no reason to believe Durgan was involved in any illegal activity or his that his life was threatened before his disappearance.Neighbors were reluctant to comment on police activity near the Durgan G Street residence Wednesday afternoon, although they confirmed investigators were at the house Tuesday. Some neighbors had no knowledge or declined to comment about the family's life before Durgan's disappearance. He was last seen in Cañon City where he rented a motel room the evening of July 10. After Durgan missed two scheduled appointments the next day, his wife reported him missing. Durgan was employed by Nortel Communications as a senior network specialist. Company officials told The Mountain Mail he had worked with the company since 1989. His vehicle, a red 2002 Saturn sedan, was found July 15 in a U.S. 50 pullout east of the Chaffee/Fremont County line.It was taken to the Colorado Bureau of Investigation laboratory in Pueblo where it was processed for anything that might lead to his whereabouts. July 19, kayakers on the Arkansas River discovered a body in the water near Parkdale, about 35 miles downstream from where Durgan's car was located. The body was recovered and transported to the El Paso County coroner where dental records identified it as Durgan. Fremont County Sheriff's officials and Cañon City Police personnel continue seeking information about the case. People who have information are encouraged to call Fremont County Sheriff's detective Mike Joliffe at (719) 276-5615 or Cañon City Police officials at (719) 276-5600.
Those who provide information may receive a cash reward.

There are no words. . . . . . . . . I am so sorry Tara Ann.
I'm sorry Tara. My thoughts are with you and Jim's families.
I'm so very sorry, Tara. My thoughts and prayers are with you, also.
Lyn & Teddy I sent you comments on MySpace (sorry it was easier than email)... Keli, I don't have another way to get a hold of you right now... sorry...
My thanks and love to everyone. Your thoughts and prayers are felt by many. Stop me if you see me in town... I want to hug you all for your love and support. I'm so lucky to have friends like you.
Love always,
Tara Ann
Wow, I cannot even believe this. I know I'm a little out of the way but if there's anything I can do, please please please let me know. Seriously, ANYTHING!
Thanks Camie. How about just a hug and a lunch the next time you drive through? Will you be home for the fair next week?
Ms. Tara,
I am extremely sorry to hear about your loss. Believe me, thoughts and prayers are with you and Jim's children throughout the community of Salida, and surrounding areas. I only hope that justice is brought to the individual or individuals that are responsible for this terrible act of violence. You take care of yourself........and always hold your memories close to you......
Thank you Shari. It takes a lot to leave a comment on a strangers blog. There have been over 600 hits in two days and you're the only one strong enough to leave your own imprint on it. So thank you very much, it means a lot to me.
It is also very comforting to know that so many people care about Jim and his children. They meant so very much to him.
Thanks again.
