Another Day, Another Loss

Grandma Corrine Barrus Warren (September 4, 1928 ~ January 4, 2009)
Grandma with Aunt Wilda, her only sister.

This morning marked the passing of my stepdad's mother, Grandma Warren. While I will certainly miss her and her always ready advice, I am glad that she is finally at peace. Grandma Warren had a hard long life and in recent years had been battling COPD and dementia as well as the loss of her own husband.

Here is a video of Grandma singing a Christmas carol the year before last (2007) (Please ignore my warbling... and if you listen past that you can hear Grandma belting it out):

Dallas, her middle child of 11, telling a story about a Christmas the family had when he was a child. Grandma adding her own commentary too :)

This is a picture of Grandma at Kidd Ray's baptism last year as Dallas shakes hands with one of her nephews.
Grandma with Bandit, the family bird who resides with the fish in her bedroom.

Every time I'd go into Grandma's living room she would grab my hand and tell me that this was all going to be okay... she was certain that they would get "those bad people" and that everything would work out for the best. She'd let me know that you don't miss them any less, but that the pain eventually starts to subside. I wish I could have her optimism... especially knowing that she had buried three of her own children and a husband. I'm going to miss her weekly pep talks. Home wont be the same without her at the table.
