Happy Birthday ECD...

Happy birthday Bethie! Today you start another step towards growing up... as if you haven't been walking down that path for a long time. You are your daddy's pride and joy... his first princess. You'll always be his princess. You've come a long way since this pictures was taken when you were six. From burning your forehead with the curling iron to declaring you must take your hairdryer and "special" styling products with you to your swim meets... you were growing up almost too fast for your daddy to handle!

Elisabeth, like your brother Andrew, there is so much I want to tell you about the amazing love your father had for you. He was so proud of you and all your accomplishments. Your school work and academics meant a lot to him. He looked forward to the day when you truly would grow up and go to college (something he did not finish). He was excited to see you grow into a young woman... you are already so many years ahead of your young age of eleven... slow down and enjoy them.

Remember to keep laughing when you can. You have your father's incredible sense of humor (although dry at times and probably only you and I could understand it)... remember the car ride up to Denver in June of this year... Daddy was on the phone with "Ann" (one day when you're much older you'll understand why he felt the need to keep my first name from you at that moment... why he felt the need to protect me)... remember the bantering about who had the helmet and who was in the most need of it for the day... hold on to those jokes.

You daddy would only sing in the car if you were in the car with him. It didn't matter what the song was the two of you could belt it out... and I loved the phone calls I would get while you rode with your dad when he needed to remember the name of an artist for a song. The cds your father made were always the ones I carried in my car and that he carried in his car too... the songs were all picked out by him... just like the songs he put on your iPod... all picked out by him... cherrish them.

Continue to make your Daddy proud, Elisabeth Caroline.

The world will call you Elisabeth... and some might even continue to call you Beth... but you'll always be HIS Bethie.

Love,
Tara Ann
